Lennon A Signature Rug
The Signature collection is comprised of some of Fareed's most modern and striking designs, emphasizing experimentation over convention. While the production of his rugs is done according to age-old methods, his experimental creative process allows him a means for departure from the conventional parameters of rug designing. Fareed doesn't enjoy creating sterile, unremarkable pieces. Just as important to the formation of his notion of artistic integrity is the acknowledgement that anything pure and noble is all the more ripe for corruption. As an artist attending university in London during his formative years, he invariably began to see new, radical forms of modern expression, including graffiti, punk music and the Neo-Pop movement. To him, this experience introduced him to a new type of culture, a transient culture characterized as transient, nihilistic, and sometimes even self-destructive. For him, the implications of these new forms of expression were clear: nothing is meant to last forever. This mantra, a far cry from the romantic notions his predecessors echoed in their craft, was the heart of his methodology. In our mass culture of consumerism, celebrity worship, instant gratification, and a conspicuous obsession with material wealth, still some traditional mediums have managed to survive the onslaught of pop-culture iconography. This all the more deepened his fascination with a medium long considered traditional, while forcing him to reconsider the nature of creativity in the context of textiles, an area of art with which very little had improved upon or changed for some time.

Christopher Fareed :: Designer Profile
A designer of the 90s and today, he has experimented with radical structures and forms. Some of his original work drew its influence from print media, pop art and grunge culture, exploring the use of cultural trends and incorporating them into home decor. His designs influence in re-defining the boundaries of rug making. Since the beginning he has used convergent technologies, computers, mathematics, and theories of proportion in his designs.
Christopher's designs are creative, maximizing the use of space, deceiving the eye if necessary and paying particular attention to the way space relates to a rug. He enjoys visually integrating the interiors with progressions of popular culture, principally reflecting modern trends and personality; incorporating individual style in existing architecture. Final results appear as if they have naturally evolved, complementing and building on each other in the final impact of the space. Each rug with its own idiosyncrasy is a tribute to the current trends.
Each contemporary rug is hand made with pure New Zealand wool which is known for its softness, pliability, and superior dye absorption (for more rich, vivid colors).

Banana & Bamboo Silk
Cleaning Bamboo & Banana silk rugs should be left to a professional carpet cleaner, however, there are times when a quick response is needed and you need to clean the carpet yourself. Bamboo & Banana silk carpets are known for their unique characteristics; therefore, need extra care when cleaning which will help to keep it looking luxurious and shiny.
- Pre-test a hidden area
- Treat spots quickly to prevent permanent stains
- DO NOT scrub bamboo or banana silk carpets; it could warp the pile. Gently blot the soiled area, beginning from the edge and working your way in, using a white cloth or paper-towel to absorb liquid from spills. Dyes and inks in colored fabrics and papers can run and further damage your carpet.
The most damaging effect on area rugs is vacuuming. Cleaning a handmade rug is a different than cleaning wall to wall carpet, and extra care must be taken when vacuuming your rug. High powered vacuums will pull threads out of the back of rugs and cause sprouts. These include the bagless Dyson and Oreck. If a vacuum can pick up a bowling ball imagine what it can do to a rug. In general, abide by the following guidelines:
- Use the handheld attachment to vacuum your rug.
- If no handheld attachment exists, turn the beater bar off on your vacuum. If it can not be turned off have it on the highest setting.
- Carefully place your vacuum on the edge of the rug when beginning to vacuum.
- Use the handheld attachment to clean fringes.
